Reunion - 1978 and Others

Greetings to all Baldwinians: A group of enthusiastic Baldwinians most of whom were from the Class of 1978 met at the Bowring Institute on Wednesday 16th June 2010. Thanks to the efforts of Avajit Dewanjee, Robinson and remote support from Herman Netto in Singapore and with Krishan Das Nair chipping in, 25 Baldwinians came together. What started as an informal meeting of a few friends because one of them was visiting Bangalore turned out to be a grand evening. There were folks who came in from Delhi, Muscat, Chennai, for this event. The OBA President, Shakeel and Executive Committee member, yours truly, also attended the get together. The evening was filled with nostalgia about the Life and Times at Baldwins, not to mention quite a lot of boarders were present in this gathering. RVS Ashok the Games Captain came specially from Chennai and so did Das. The mood amongst the boys was electric with some meeting after a span of 30+ years. A specially designed T Shirt sporting the school colours and logo was printed and slod at the event which was a huge success. I must say the highlight of the evening was the spontaneous gesture on the part of each one there to donate Rs.1000/- each towards the OBA for the scholarship initiative and in all Rs.25,000/- was collected. The Donors are: John Chacko, Joseph Chacko, Avijit Dewanjee, Robinson Doss, Dinakar Raj, Abu Abraham, Suranjan Mitra, Vinod Keni, Ramesh Subramaniam, Venkatesh Reddy, Selvaraj, Amar Bangara, Paresh Gala, Abraham Verghese, Thomas Mathews, Shobi Thomas, Katen Patel, Dr.B.R.Vinay, Krishna Das Nair, P.R.Sriram, K.U.Mandanna, Raju Surekha, Shakeel,Dr.Gopi and self. It was indeed a commendable effort on the part of all Baldwinians present to open their hearts and contribute. Avajit Dewanjee was at his best conducting the proceedings with a lot of “Heart” and Robinson with a lot of “stomach”. On behalf of The President and the Executive Committee, this gesture of collecting funds for the OBA spontaneously is well appreciated. All present promised to be present at the Weston Dady celebrations on July 10 and also attend the Athletic meet and OBA Day this year. Long Live Baldwins!! Regards, Gouri Shankar Class of 1977
