Thank You Everyone, and God Bless

April 21, 2010 Baldwin Alumni by OBA & OGA

Dear Old Baldwinians, both boys and girls,

My family and I would like to thank each and everyone of you for the messages, tributes, personal visits, flowers, phone calls and all that you did for us in our darkest hour, to show how much you loved and honoured our dear Mother and to lend us your support. Mum loved her Baldwin family very much and was very proud to be a Life Member of the OBA. I remember how deeply moved she was when the OBA honoured her at a special function some years ago.

I know she would have been very touched to see how many of "her boys' attended her funeral service, remembering all that she had done for them, and most of all, singing the school song so proudly before she was laid to rest. The sons of the Alma Mater were also my mother's...and I'm speaking here of all of you, not just her own two sons, Roger and Peter. She was always so proud to hear of how well all of you were doing, and her memory of her boys did not fade with age. She fondly recalled A.P. Ramaswamy's picture-perfect sprints, Robin Paul's unbroken sprint records, Denny Martin's encounters with the English language, Nicky Appachu being the mascot for the Boarder's Tug-o-War team, Vijay Ward doing exercises outside Bunny's games' room when he was as little as Nursery class age, Goverdhan's smart leading of the NCC on Sports Day, Brian Leeson's eloquence at the debates, declamations and elocutions,Sunil Gokavi's brilliance in class, Chidanand and Mansur dancing tap with Mr. Mitchell,...these are just a few memories that she recalled time and again when she and I would chat about the old Baldwin days gone by. Indeed, "wheresoe'er her sons shall conflict, they shall win renown"...Mum believed that the best boys were always (only!) her Baldwin Boys, the Gentlemen of Baldwins, as she used to call them, quoting Dr. Sam Kamaleson. There are many more of you that she remembered fondly...so please don't feel left out if not mentioned here. My memory fails me, hers never did.

Thanks so much, all of you, and especially Goverdhan for going all out and doing so much to see that the OBA was a solid and special presence at the service, and for collating and reading out the tributes; to Shakeel for getting so many of the boys together... to my batchmate, Gul, for being there, as always, and especially for writing that beautiful letter...(made me cry, Gul)...and to all those who were there to say goodbye...Suranjan, Ashley, Robin, Arun Kumar, Vijay, Jiggs...hope I've not left anyone out. If I have, please excuse me. Thanks again, and God bless.

Please keep Mum and all of us in prayer.
