Baldwin Girls' High School - Commencement Excercises 2010
Baldwin Girls' High School held the Commencement Exercises 2010 on Friday, 5th February 2010.
The evening began with the graduating students leading a processional, dressed in shimmering and twinkling sarees. The 256 girls were followed by the distinguished guests, Principal, Manager and teaching staff.
On a cool evening with a light breeze blowing, the girls took their places, looking angelic in white. Bishop Dr. Taranath Sagar, Resident & Presiding Bishop, South India Regional Conference & Madras Regional Conference and Mrs. Padma Grace Sagar, President Deaconess' Conference were the Chief Guests for the evening. Mrs. Indira Williams, Principal, and Ms. Shaila John Wesley, Manager escorted Bishop Sagar, Mrs. Sagar and Rev. N.H. Jayawanth, District Superintendent, Bangalore Dist., on to the Dias. After the opening prayer by Rev. Jayawanth, Mrs. Indira Williams welcomed the distinguished guests and the gathering. Ms. Shaila John Wesley introduced Bishop and Mrs. Sagar and floral presentations were made.
Guests attending included Mr. Dinakar Wilson, Principal BBHS and his wife Mrs. Tarini Wilson, Heads of Institutions, Mrs. Sheila Muliyil, OGA President, Mr. Shakeel Abdul Rahiman, OBA President, Mr. B.G. Koshy, and other friends and well wishers, parents of the graduating students and staff.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of various cups and medals. The Stephens Honour Cup was presented to the School Captain. The Banner Oration was done with great aplomb and solemnity with the School President/Captain Maria Moncia handing over charge of the School banner to the President-designate from the 9th Std.
The Old Girls' Association had instituted an award three years ago for "The Baldwin Girl who scores the Highest Percentage in the ICSE Exam." The Award carries a Cheque for Rs. 10,000/-. This year the Award went to Maithreyee Sharma who scored 95.7% in the ICSE Exam-2009.
The cheque was presented to Maithreyee by Mrs. Sheila Muliyil, OGA President.
The Bishop, in his Commencement Address exhorted the girls to keep the banner of Baldwins flying high. Referring several times to the girls as "my sweet angels" the Bishop told them to Persevere and Plan for the future. Mrs. Padma Sagar, conducted the candle lighting ceremony and led the girls in taking the oath. The electric lights were turned off and the whole place was aglow with the warm and gentle candlelight throwing its beams far and wide.
The BGHS Choir rendered melodious numbers and the brass ensemble gave a wonderful rendition. Mr. Aubrey Mitchell was at the keyboard. Ms. Prathima Rao and her colleagues ably compered the programme in lucid tones.
The evening came to a close with the recessional, with the girls encircling the entire gathering with a cordon of candlelight.
This was followed by a sumptuous dinner enjoyed by all.
